PEACE IN SOLITUDE
In today’s world, finding solitude has become increasingly challenging for many. People are constantly surrounded by devices that pull them into connections with others, often leaving little room for quiet introspection. Social media connects individuals across vast distances, fostering extroverted connections through the digital world. Yet, this endless connectivity can overwhelm them, blurring the boundary between meaningful interaction and simply the desire to be alone with their thoughts.
This series explores the pursuit of peace through solitude, encouraging a connection to nature as a path to self-reflection. In crafting these images, I seek to capture those rare, quiet spaces untouched by digital noise—places that invite the viewer to turn inward, free from distraction. Here, nature becomes a sanctuary that gently encourages viewers to disconnect from the external world and find harmony within.
The medium chosen is significant. Glass is delicate, akin to solitude. It is vulnerable, transparent, and can be quickly shattered with too much force. This fragility resonates with the experience of solitude: powerful yet easily disrupted.
Each image begins as a digital negative layered with liquid emulsion over glass prepared with a photo gelatin base. This layering and blending of materials create a surface that uniquely captures light, refracting and softening the image while echoing the subtle textures in nature. Through this process, I aim to create a visual and physical experience of solitude that invites viewers to pause, reflect, and connect with the quiet moments within us all.
